In addition to the standard scope of work, Nilex is an active company developing new systems for soil improvement and remediation. The following applications have been field tested by Nilex crews and have been shown to be valid techniques for site improvement.

Well Injection Depth Extraction (WIDE)

Well Injection Depth Extraction (WIDE) is a soil cleansing and remediation technique. By using alternating rows of wick drains wrapped with a hose, reagent-laden fluid may be applied directly to the contaminant within the soil. A suction system directly attached to the wick drains removes the contaminant for treatment.

Lasagna™

The Lasagna™ system uses electro-osmosis to migrate a contaminated flume through treatment zones. Lasagna™ is a relatively low maintenance process; very little on-site service is required once the system has been installed. An electric field does all the work by moving the water and contaminant through the soil into the passive treatment zones. The water is recirculated by gravity back to the anode. As long as the power is on and evenly distributed, the process works quietly on its own. Periodic checks of the water levels, field temperatures and the data system are recommended.

Horizontal Wick Drains

Much work has been done to evaluate the potential to install wick drains horizontally to lower the phreatic surface (water table) and improve slope stability. Thoughts and lessons learned from horizontal drain installation are detailed in the following paper:
