Nilex has assembled an unrivaled amount of experience in management and field operations for Wick Drain, Geomembrane, Tank Lining, and Earthquake Drain operations.  The following personnel have guided their respective fields to the standards required today. 

 

M. James (Jim) Warren - Manager, Eastern Operations; Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, USA

Jim joined Nilex in July 28th, 2005 after 19 years as founder and president of Drainage and Ground Improvement (DGI), which he started after rising to Chief Operating Officer in 17 years with the Vibroflotation company that pioneered wick drains and other soil improvement techniques in the United States.  Jim is the author of many articles concerning the use of Wick Drains and other ground improvement techniques, and was selected to review the Design and Construction Guideline Manual for the Federal Highway Administration, after which he authored the Wick Drain portion of the Ground Improvement Manual for the FHWA.  His article Prefabricated Vertical (Wick) Drains appears in the Ground Improvement/Ground Reinforcement/Ground Treatment Developments 1978-1997 Geotechnical Special Publication No. 69 published by ASCE.  He earned a BSCE from Bucknell University in 1965 and an MSCE from the University of Missouri in 1967.  He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.  Jim is now responsible for estimating and managing projects for Nilex in the Eastern United States.

 

R. Robert (Bob) Goughnour P.E., PhD - Manager Engineering

Dr. Goughnour received his education at Michigan State University, culminating in a Ph.D. in 1967. He was then appointed an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the university, and served in that capacity until 1972 when he went into consulting. Dr. Goughnour has over 45 years experience in various phases of construction, including design and construction of major soil improvement projects both in the USA and overseas. He has conducted research for the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the FHWA Department of Transportation. He has authored numerous technical papers on soil improvement and concrete slipforming. His experience has included design and development of advanced construction equipment, and is the holder of 14 U.S. patents relating to slipform construction and ground improvement. Biographical listings include Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. Dr. Goughnour joined Nilex Construction in December of 2000.

 

Jimmy Foster - Project Manager; San Francisco California, USA

Jimmy has been involved in the construction industry for over 40 years, beginning as a journeyman pile driver in 1964.  He continued to work in the pile driving industry and was hired by International Construction Equipment in 1982, and in 1985 founded Mustang Construction, a company specializing in the installation of Prefabricated Vertical "Wick" Drains.  In 1995, Jimmy sold the company to Geotechnics America, Inc. (GTA) and took the position of west coast manager.  In 2000, Nilex purchased GTA's equipment and key personnel, and assigned Jimmy the role of manager and developer of projects in California and the west.  Along with Dr. Bob Goughnour, he has been a key developer of the Earthquake Drain system, and other testing and improvement techniques.

 

Joshua Kolz, P.E. - Project Manager; Denver Colorado, USA

Josh first began with Nilex doing summer work as a laborer on Liner projects in 1990.  He worked his way to technician, and after Nilex got out of the Liner industry in the U.S., worked as a foreman for SLT (now GSE) for several years before returning to Nilex to work with Wick Drains in 1996.  Josh worked as a wick cutter, operator, and superintendent while working his way through school, and in December of 2000 graduated with a Bachelors degree from the University of Colorado at Denver.  Josh acquired his P.E. designation in 2005, and works in the Denver office estimating, managing, and providing engineering evaluations for projects throughout North America.

 

Brad Zaworski, C.E.T. - Project Manager; Edmonton Alberta, Canada

After graduating with honors from Civil Engineering at Northern Alberta in 1985, Brad joined Nilex in January of 1986. Brad gained his experience with Nilex by starting in the warehouse on the fabrication line seaming liners into large panels.  He then worked in the field overseeing various liner and erosion control projects throughout North America.  In 1991, he moved into the project management role and was responsible for estimating, project procurement and the daily operations of the construction division in Canada.  Brad has been involved the successful completion of numerous geomembrane, wick drain, and erosion control projects throughout Canada

 

Steven N. Roy, P.E. - Project Manager; Denver, CO, USA

Steve joined Nilex in November of 2005, and works in the Denver office estimating and managing  projects throughout the United States.  Steve has 30 years of civil, structura, and construction experience with various projects through the United States and Canada.  Steve has construction and engineering experience with telecommunications, power generation (coal and nuclear plants, and hydroelectric dams) as well as substations for power distribution.

Steve Received his Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado, and is a professional engineer registered in the state of Colorado.
